BELIEVE
May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. ~ Author Unknown

As a young mother someone passed on advice to me that it didn't matter if what my son was reading was the comics, he was reading! I completely agreed and now there is actual research backing this up and, from personal experience I can tell you that it works!

Super-powered literacy: The benefits of comics in the classroom For generations, parents and educators have written off comics as being cheap and disposable: a sub-literate medium more suited for after-school reading than inside the classroom. But researchers are starting to reconsider the long-shunned medium as a potential positive teaching tool, especially for boys who tend to lag behind girls in terms of reading ability. The latest in the Canadian Council on Learning's, "Lessons in Learning" series explores the hidden literacy powers of comic books and graphic novels.   >> Go to article
INSPIRE
I've been following Tiny Buddha for a while now on Facebook and there is always some amazing inspiration for me each day so I wanted to share the site with you...Carolyne

In our fast paced, always-on world, it's not difficult to access information. It comes at you at breakneck speed. Articles, blog posts, status updates, tweets-there's never a shortage of ideas to consider.

Gaining knowledge isn't a problem. Applying it, on the other hand, is a lot more challenging, especially when you consider how little time we have throughout our busy days to stop, breathe and just be.

Tiny Buddha is about stepping back, taking time to reflect on simple wisdom, and learning new ways to apply it to our complex lives-complete with responsibilities, struggles, dreams, and relationships.

The site features stories and tips about applying wisdom from readers all over the globe. You'll find posts about happiness, motivation, inspiration, love, relationships, meaning, possibilities, and mindfulness. Much of it has its roots in Buddhism, but this is not a site about religion. It's about ideas that make sense and make a big difference when applied.

Your contribution will help us fulfill this goal.  Join us September 17, 2010 for our 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

Call for Knitters!
Are you a knitter or crocheter who can whip up a hat in an evening?  Then get your knit on! You'll be helping to raise awareness about the Period of PURPLE Crying and shaken baby syndrome.

The PURPLE Crying folks are looking for crafty moms and groups to knit or crochet PURPLE newborn baby caps to be given to babies born in BC during the week of November 15th to coincide with Canada's National Child Day.

Create from five to 50 wee hats using any newborn baby cap pattern and a soft baby-friendly PURPLE yarn.

Share the information with your friends and encourage them to knit a few caps over the summer months.
